Add Detail & Drama to a Boring Ceiling
Learn how to dress up and paint a chandelier ceiling medallion using a Wagner FLEXiO paint sprayer to get a super smooth finish.
Overview
Dress up a chandelier by painting a decorative ceiling medallion with a paint sprayer.
Clean medallion
Clean ceiling medallion, as necessary, before painting.

Assemble spray tent
Assemble the Wagner Studio Spray tent. Place the celling medallion on top of a cardboard box to raise it up off the ground to make painting easier.

Fill sprayer with paint
Fill the Wagner FLEXiO 4000 sprayer cup with paint.
Attach the Detail Finish nozzle to the sprayer.
Adjust the material flow control, the air pressure and the spray nozzle and make a few test sprays on a piece of cardboard or paper before painting the medallion.

Apply paint
Apply two coats of paint to the ceiling medallion, allowing to dry completely between coats.

Spray details
Be sure to spray the edges of the medallion and any raised details.

Change colors, if necessary
We ended up changing colors twice during this project before setting on the final aqua color for the ceiling medallion.

Test paint samples for color
Learn from our mistake and test sample swatches on the ceiling before painting the medallion.

Install medallion
Remove the light fixture and mount the ceiling medallion. The canopy of your chandelier should hold the ceiling medallion in place, but you can also use Liquid Nails and brad nails to secure in place. Practice proper safety precautions when working with electricity and installing lighting. If you’re inexperienced with electricity, hire a professional electrician to do the job for you.
