Painting Doors with a SMART roller

Learn how to easily paint pocket doors using the Wagner SMART Roller. These old, brown doors were refreshed in no time with this paint roller.

Meg from Green With Decor used our SMART roller to freshen up old doors!

What you’ll need:

  • SMART Roller
  • Drop cloth
  • Painters tape
  • Screwdriver
  • Wood filler
  • Sandpaper
  • Tack cloth
  • Primer
  • Paint

The doors started like this:

Step 1

Prep your doors. Remove the door hardware, fill holes with wood filler, and sand the entire door. Use painters tape to protect your trim.

Step 2

Prime your doors if needed.

Step 3

Rub some petroleum jelly on the SMART Roller's fill tube.

Step 4

Clip the fill tube to the paint container.

Step 5

Put the SMART Roller together.

Step 6

Put the fill valve onto the fill tube.

Step 7

Pull the plunger, filling the roller with paint.

Step 8

Paint your doors. Push the plunger until paint comes through the roller. Work in 3’x3’ sections.

Squeeze the trigger as you need more paint.

Step 9

Refill your SMART roller if needed.

Step 10

Take down your painters tape.

Step 11

Clean your SMART roller.

Step 12

Let the doors dry.

Step 13

Put the door hardware back on.

The doors look great with a fresh coat of paint!
