How to Fix a Broken Phone Charger
Learn how to fix a broken smartphone charging cord by heat shrink tubing around the electrical wire.

If you have ever experienced a phone charger breaking, you understand how expensive it can be to replace those cords. Instead of replacing the cords, let's fix them! It is better for the environment and your wallet too! With a few simple tools, you will be able to fix all your failing cords in no time!
Fixing a failing cord is a great way to extend the longevity of expensive phone cords. This hack is so simple to do, doesn't take a lot of time and is kind to your wallet! Heat Shrink Tubing
Purchasing the RIGHT heat shrink tubing can make the difference between your project working and it failing. You want to ensure that your tubing will fit around the head of the charger, but will shrink enough to get a tight fit on the cord.
All cord proportions may be different, so it is important that you measure your cord and order what will work for you. I cannot guarantee that what worked for me will work for you.
Because there is a big difference in size between the cord and charging heads, you need to get heat shrink tubing that will shrink a lot.
I bought these HEAT SHRINK TUBES here. But before you purchase your own, you should check out my post HERE to show you WHY I bought these ones.
You can also select different colors of tubing if you prefer!
Once you have the correct size tubing, cut it to length so that it will cover part of the charger head and go past the point of cord failure.
Select the right heat gun
It is important to choose a great heat gun to get this job done right and for this project, I chose to use the redesigned HT400 Heat Gun from Wagner.

Use a Heat Gun to Fix a Failing Charger
You will place your prepared heat shrink tube onto your cord and then simply turn your heat gun on low and heat the tube up!
After a few seconds, the tube will begin to shrink. Continue moving the heat gun around until the tube is fully shrunk around the cord head and cable!
This will provide added strength and stabilization for your failing phone cord and should extend the life of the cord too!
