Deck Flip on a Budget
Transforming your deck on a tight budget is easy when you have the right tools!
Overview
Hi There! This is Alexandra from The Hedgehog Hollow and I recently got to try out the Wagner FLEXiO 3000 paint sprayer whilst flipping my covered deck. I was on a super tight budget but I wanted to take my deck from drab to fab and it’s totally possible for under $500 with FLEXiO and a few top tips!
Before
First of all, let’s look at some before pictures.

Some work has already been done
It’s not a very big space and the side is an off white/yellow color; the deck itself I had painted by a decorator last year. Our home is a bit of a fixer upper, but I got some basics done by a professional to allow me to focus on the big projects.

Prep space
First of all I want to add light and make it feel more roomy; I hate the prep work but its honestly so important!

Wash
I gave it a good wash down, first with TSP (sugar soap), then hosed off any residue.

Mask area
Next up was masking tape for clean lines and finally drop cloths for anything I didn’t want to spray.

Prep complete
It probably took half a day; but I was so pleased I had done it as it saved so much more time in the long run and gave a more professional finish.

Spray walls
Now for the fun part, spraying! The handheld paint sprayer was super easy to get set up, I also decided to use the plastic liners which saved a lot of clean up and if you ever see one of my crafting videos I am all about making it easy for myself! I ended up doing two coats which is what the paint recommended and for longevity outside I think that was best. The FLEXiO paint spray gun includes diagrams to guide you on the size of your spray and there’s a quick help chart in the instructions, but it’s all very intuitive.

Light and bright
But the difference is huge, the space is so much brighter and feels so much more open, the light reflects so nicely off the white.

Set up spray tent
Now that we have a beautiful space, we need some furniture. With my tight budget I need to thrift or find some pieces to upcycle; I found a great couch and table set on Facebook Marketplace and a fantastic chair in a local flea market; I could see potential in all of them, Wagner also sent me the Studio Spray Tent which was a godsend.

Place furniture inside
I placed the couch in the tent and got to spraying, it’s a great size, you could definitely fit a sideboard in here too, it stops any overspray and could be used inside or out.

Spray furniture
Again, the Wagner FLEXiO 3000 paint sprayer was perfect! It got in all the nook and crannies that you would struggled with a brush or roller and it gave a lovely even finish. I did two coats as I wanted a nice durable finish with people sitting on the pieces.

Lovely black finish
I love the black finish and the difference is HUGE!

Update cushions
The bottom had fallen out of the couch so I cut a piece of MDF to create a new seat, added 5 inch foam and then added fabric, I also created some easy sew pillows. For the accents I thrifted everything and added bright pops of spray paint. Let’s take a look at the finished areas, first of all just the white made such a difference:

So cute...
Tilly loves this new deck, this little lounger I already had and it matches perfectly!

And relaxing...
The couch came out great too, Greg and I love spending our evenings sitting out here.

And comfortable
The chair had a dramatic transformation too and it's now so comfortable to sit in and I think it looks so stylish.

More info
Finally, the table looks great too and I polish up the glass with some glass cleaner and it looks like new, staged up with some of my upcycled items it looks fresh and modern.
Thanks so much for joining me, if you want to follow the whole transformation in more detail I have been posting over on The Hedgehog Hollow and I have a playlist with tutorial videos on each stage. Thanks so much for following along, I hope you enjoyed this flip too!
Happy DIY-ing
