PowerTex Texture Sprayer

$ 114.99
The Wagner PowerTex texture sprayer features a built-in air turbine that eliminates the need for a separate air compressor, making it easy to tackle a variety of texturing projects.

The on-board hopper holds one gallon of material, while the three included nozzles allow you to spray aggregated and non-aggregated materials in popcorn, knock-down and orange peel patterns. The electric texture paint sprayer is ideal for spraying texture on ceilings and walls.

When it's time to clean up, it comes apart into four easy-to-wash parts.

Features

  • Sprays at 0.2 GPM for optimal coverage
  • Three spray patterns -- popcorn, knock-down and orange peel -- provide enhanced spray control on a variety of surfaces
  • Maximum pressure of 2 PSI; built-in air turbine eliminated the need for a separate air compressor
  • Accommodates the use of aggregated and non-aggregated materials for flexible applications
  • Includes a 1-year limited warranty

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Save your money I bought this sprayer based on videos i searched. Started off fairly well with setup and such. Mixed the mud to the recommended consistency. And that's where problems started. I started with the smallest hole nozzle. Nothing came out. I figured the mud was too thick so I emptied the hopper and remixed the mud again. Tried once more. No luck. Tried woth the middle size nozzle, same issue. Used the largest size one and finally had some Mudd coming thru. However, the trigger on this machine requires superhuman hand strength! If you're spraying a ceiling, it will take some time as you need to take numerous breaks because your fingers reach a point where you don't have the strength to squeeze! I have other Wagner tools and am quite satisfied but will have to pass on this machine.

Spent too much time to figure out how to use it properly. Talked to Home Depot today- they have professional equipment - $72 per day all included (compressor, sprayer, gun,... except compound). Wagner, thanks for experience with you but ....

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product (when used as directed) I am a professional drywall finisher with 20+ years of experience. I specialize in warranty work, water/fire damage, piece work, and small renovations. I do lots of texture matching and I have been using a large texture machine or a compressor and hopper for years but I've grown tired of lugging around those huge machines for just a patch or two. So, I decided to purchase the power tex with some apprehension, due to several very bad reviews including a video review were it was shown being used. I opened the box and did what SHOULD always be done first, read the instructions! The instructions were clear and concise and when followed deliver exactly what is promised by Wagner. I used the power tex on a few patch jobs including a 300 sq ft basement. The tricky part like most texture devices is getting the mixture "just right" and this is something many of the 'bad review' included. I would suggest for orange peel/knock down using pre mixed joint compound and getting a smaller container to mix. I used a small paint mixing paddle with a cordless variable drill and it worked perfect. But, then again, I've been mixing 'mud' most of my life. Clean up was a easy and quite simple compared to say, a large Graco machine. Take off the turbine and set aside. Then use a hose or submerge other parts. I will say if you have not used a texture machine of any kind be sure to cover flooring, walls, and anything else you don't want to have texture on. Also, I use either a large spray shield, large piece of card board, or large knockdown knife to use as a means to keep the overspray to a minimum. The sprayer shoots a significant amount of air right when it's turned on, so be prepared to have your plastic sheeting and other tarps or drop cloths moved around if bit secured by tape or other adhesives. I found this to be an overall great product for DIY and small/medium application. It is super handy for smaller jobs or place where you can't bring a big hopper or texture machine,

Which is the best nozzle to use for an orange peel texture?

The size of the nozzle doesn't change pattern, just the amount applied. The heavier you want the application, the larger the nozzle you can use. For best control, use a smaller nozzle. For more tips call technical support at 800-328-8251.

Can I spray a heavy-bodied paint (texture paint) with this?

Asked by: ibowlngolf
The Power Tex is meant for spraying thinned drywall compound to create a knock down texture or popcorn mix. The paint type that you mention might spray better through our iSpray nozzle on our Flexio line of HVLP, like the Flexio 570, 2000 or 690. For more info call us at 800-328-8251.

Can i mix paint, instead of water? I use to do that with my other texture sprayer, and it worked great. That way, any spray that hit the ceiling wasn't noticeable.

Asked by: Bigtoe
Mixing some paint as a colorant to the mixture should be fine. Using paint to thin the material may not actually work by itself without some water. To discuss further call us at 800-328-8251.

Will this match most California knockdown textures for patches that look like this?

Asked by: Mick2994
Texture matching can be a bit tricky, but it can be done. First experiment on another piece of Drywall/Sheetrock to find which tip and joint compound consistency is right for the job. Drywall repair including texture matching is one of the trickiest jobs and can be frustrating to novices and most DIYers.

As long as the texture material is mixed to a creamy consistency, similar to pancake batter, you can use it with the PowerTex Sprayer. You can dilute it with water if necessary.

Can it spray textured bed liners?

Can this gun be used to spray on textured bedliners similiar to Line-X or Rhino lining materials that use the fine texture additive?
Asked by: Cody
This is not an application we have tested the PowerTex for. We typically recommend it for use with aggregated materials such as simulated acoustic like you would use for popcorn texture, or also diluted joint compound for things like knockdown and orange peel. Be careful with materials like automotive finishes. They often have flashpoints below 70 degrees which would be hazardous when used with a handheld electric sprayer such as this. The flashpoints of the materials you intend to spray need to be above 70 degrees.

The Power Tex will not work well with paint. It is meant to be used with 1) aggregated materials such as simulated acoustic (“popcorn”) and 2) unaggregated materials such as diluted joint compound for knockdown and orange peel.
