Control Pro 150 is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 18.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst experience of my life. I got off a 10 hour shift, super excited to come and and start to paint my back patio. I set up the Pro 150. I followed the instructions TO THE TEE. The spray nozzle was faulty. Paint everywhere. Lucky I have a great local ACE HARDWARE. I’m taking it back and getting a refund tomorrow. It’s terrible. Now I have to do double the work to get the ferment cleaned.....

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent I purchased this sprayer after disappointment with another worked beautifully , and sprayed just as they said that it would. It was also very easy to clean ! Also, much less expensive than the other sprayer.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Powerful Sprayer with Practice I am undergoing a complete home renovation and was looking for a sprayer that would make my life easier to repaint and entire house. Given the multitude of uses I was able to use the sprayer for I can confidently list the Pro's and Con's I found with this sprayer. The sprayer is lightweight and very portable, the hose for the sprayer gun is a really good length which when transporting can make it a little cumbersome, but this is not a problem given the length gives you excellent flexibility to move around large spaces without dragging the main unit. The power cord is very short so you definitely will need to pack an extension cord for convenience. Overall the sprayer is well designed and built very sturdy. Has a convenient handle for carrying and is very easy to assemble and use. The feed tubing is pre-bent to fit in a 5 gallon bucket which is convenient to keep it from wiggling around while in use. It has a cover over the end so it will not suck up any lumps or particles. Now to the actual use. First thing that is noticeable when you turn it on, is the unit is LOUD. Best to pack some headphones or earplugs while using, it also does have a lot of vibration, which you will need to be very sure to tighten the sprayer hose to the unit with a wrench. If it is not tight enough it will loosen and you will end up with a leak and paint all over the area you sat the sprayer. Once you get spraying the unit does an AMAZING job. It sprays very even and precise. Excellent power in the unit without being overwhelming. Novices will need to practice getting their distancing right and not give in to the urge to move closer and continuously go over sprayed areas, this will cause you to over paint and end up with runs. After a little practice you will find the unit is top notch at getting nice even coats on the first pass. This is a huge time and paint saver once you get the hang of it. A big key to being happy with this sprayer is prep work. I don't recommend using this sprayer in small enclosed areas unless you take the time to remove or cover anything you don't want to get covered by over-spray. In larger spaces and open areas, this sprayer is amazing and you will likely be very pleased with the results. Cleaning the unit is a bit laborsome, you will need to have a bucket to hold clean water in and spray the unit to clean every piece. Wagner may want to consider a water hose connection in the future to make cleanup easier. It is also difficult to clean the hose to for the sprayer and you likely will have water stuck in the hose unless you take an extra 15-20 minutes to run air through the unit and let it spray out. Overall I think this sprayer is an excellent investment to get intermediate painters through large projects. It will save tons of time and money with a little preparation and practice. Great product from Wagner!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My bottom line: easy to use for a great finish I admit it ---I’m as lazy as the next guy. I absolutely hate to clean up after painting. So if I’m going to paint a medium-sized room, a bookcase, or even a fence, my tendency will be to grab a brush and standard roller, especially if I want the control that a brush gives me; I just won’t be interested in the work involved to set up and clean a paint sprayer. NOT SO FAST!!!! Yes, brushing can help “work” paints and stains into cracks and irregular surfaces, but, so can a sprayer. In fact, a sprayer can do a much better job. Paint sprayers are frequently advertised as time savers, but their real value is the way a good sprayer actually drives the paint into the material, enabling a better seal. I’ll even argue that, based on my experience, to paint or stain a rough surface, like an older wooden fence, or a deck, you’ll have better and longer-lasting results with the right sprayer. I’ve worked with other paint sprayers over the past 5 years, and therefore was eager to try Wagner’s Control Pro. I tested the 150 model which is the junior member in the series. It has less horsepower, a shorter hose, and more plastic in its construction, but its basic appearance and operation is the same as its Control Pro siblings. WHAT I LOVE: For my test, I sprayed an interior latex paint onto a large wooden shelving unit. Once I became comfortable with the machine, I really enjoyed using it. The Spray Gun itself is easy to hold for long periods of time and the 25 feet of hose length was ample. The gun is nimble – I was able to reach into tight spaces and still get a nice spray. The resulting paint finish is pretty – coverage is unbelievably even and smooth. I was able to get a really nice coat on the skinny board edges as well as on the long, wide stretches of shelving. Getting paint into routed grooves was incredibly easy: I was able to apply “just enough” paint to get good coverage. With other sprayers, I usually get paint runs from trying to cover the multi-dimensional surface. I suspect my success was because of the Spray Tip design. The Control Pro offers 7 different Spray Tips, each designed for different coating materials – the lower-numbered Tips are for thinner materials, such as clear stains, while the higher numbers are for oils and exterior paints. However, for the home owner who has only an occasional need for a sprayer, this feature might be a drawback: having to buy 2 or 3 more Spray Tips, that retail about $20 apiece, would probably be unexpected and upsetting. Other sprayers that I’ve used, like the Flexio, have a dial adjustment built into the gun, and don’t require special Spray Tips. Other great things: Assembly of the unit is very easy. The drawings are very detailed and precise. The How-to Videos are short and concise. The Quick-Start Guide boils instructions down to the essence. The Owner’s Manual is written by someone fluent in English, unlike many that I’ve seen these days. WHAT I WOULD CHANGE I needed a pair of pliers to install the hose clamp, and that tool is not stated as one that is needed, so I would add that to the list. Also, the hose clamp on the 150 is all plastic, which, in my opinion, is a poor design choice. Clamps are meant to come off and go back on; plastic inevitably breaks in those circumstances. A metal clamp would be better. I also would provide at least 3 different Spray Tips with the unit. The unit ships with the middle-of-the-range 515 tip, which is not recommended for stains. I would be upset if I bought this unit to stain a deck and found that I had to go back to the store to get the appropriate Spray Tip. I also find fault with the sequence of assembly steps. Both the Quick Start Guide and the Owner’s Manual describe steps such as attaching the hose, but make no reference to priming and testing for suction. Instead, these are in the “Notice! Read Before Using” instructions. To test and prime means undoing steps performed in assembly. It would make much more sense to declare the suction test as number 1 in the assembly instructions. Also, the step to place the white inlet filter cap over the end of the suction tube needs to be added in the sequence. When I was spraying, the motor shut off almost immediately, and that unnerved me. Although the Owner’s Manual does state that the motor cycling on and off is normal, the Quick Start Guide does not make mention of this. To me this is such an important factor that I think it should appear in boldface type in both the Owner’s Manual, and the Quick Start Guide. Clean up is not complicated, but it does require some time. For me, that clean-up effort means that a sprayer is not warranted for any project requiring less than 2 gallons of material. The suction tube is pretty rigid, and fits over the rim of a 5-gallon tub, but just barely. To use a 5 -gallon tub with the current tube size, I would probably rig a stand for the body of the sprayer. It would be simpler to make the tube a little more flexible and a little longer. BOTTOM LINE: This is a great sprayer--it produces a great finish, is easy to use, and has a marvelous spray gun. For medium to large-sized home-owner projects, I recommend it highly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for large projects Wagner sent me the Control Pro 150 Sprayer to review, and I used it to paint the walls and ceiling of two rooms (13x11 and 11x12) in my home. It was easy to setup, but I had trouble priming it at first. I followed the instructions which stated, "Use water to free the outlet value", and then I was able to prime it. I used a lot of paint on the first room, but after making some adjustment to the setting control knob, I got nice event paint flow on the second room. I like the idea that the sprayer does not run all the time, and the air is not blowing all the time like with the hand sprayer. I also liked how easy it was to paint the celling. You use less paint with this sprayer, which will save you some money. Cleaning after use was easy. I removed the inlet and return hoses to clean them individually, along with the spray gun and nozzle after following the clearing process in the manual. I will be using this sprayer for large projects, and the Flexio 590 Sprayer for small projects.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Thank you Wagner Overall I am impressed with this unit. Assembly was easy and straight forward. The unit is pretty easy to use. The manual is simple, yet well written and easy to understand. I would recommend that Wagner print the page about tightening the hoses on yellow paper or make the words red or add flashing lights for those of us that think we're Einstein. Failure to tighten the hoses causes a very large mess. The Prime / Spray nob shows which direction to turn it for their individual settings, but it would have been nice if there was an indication as to which position it's in other than the pictures in the manual. I am giving a good vs excellent on this based on missing accessories. A couple, cheap tools added for tightening the connections or the cleanup disassembly and a small brush would have made this excellent. I definitely recommend this unit, but advise the newbies to start with outside products.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Made life simple Received the Wagner Control Pro 150 about 3 months ago, just started using it 4 days ago. Husband and I have just purchased a new home over 7000sq feet. I had gotten quotes from professional painters and almost wanted to cry due to the cost of painting. Ceilings are 20 ft high with detail, which added to the cost. I am so happy with my decision of doing the painting myself and with the Pro 150 it is making painting so easy and enjoyable. In four days I have completed 3 rooms. Spray is consistent, and great coverage after I got the hang of it. I even did the molding around the ceilings with thanks to the 25 foot hose that comes with it. No need to buy an extra hose that is longer. Everything you need but the paint is in the box. The Wagner Pro 150 is an excellent machine to have even for the beginner, it’s user friendly, lightweight and very durable, clean up is even an easy job. Made painting a room fast and easy. I would recommend to everyone if your planning on painting one room to an entire house before hiring anyone to do the job for you get the Pro 150 and do it yourself you won’t regret it. You’ll want to paint your entire house. Can’t wait till the fall I’m going to attempt to paint my overhangs on the exterior. Hope You enjoy your Pro 150 as much as I have so far!

Is this sprayer a good choice for painting interior walls with Behr Marquee Satin Enamel paint? Or interior walls in general?

The Control Pro is an excellent choice for interior wall painting when fast application is required. Most latex and enamel wall paints are just fine. Make sure to match the tip size to the paint. For more info contact us at 800-328-8251.

Can you spray Kilz 2 latex primer with this sprayer or does it have to be thinned?

Asked by: bradley47
Kilz suggests a fluid pressure of 2,500 - 3,200 psi and a Tip size of .015" - .021". The HEA has a maximum output of 1600 psi so it may struggle a little. The Control Pro 190 with the .019" tip would do better. For more info contact us at 800-328-8251.

Yes the Control Pro 150 can be used indoors but you should make sure that the area is very well prepared by having everything you don't want paint on covered.
