Rated 5 out of 5 by from Made Painting Easy! We are painting a new construction home and this tool has made it so easy. I would never paint again without it! (Pros- fast cleanup, keeps roller full of paint with a touch of a button. Con- this is the only con... the button on the roller handle does get stuck sometimes, but it is an easy fix.) Thank you for a great tool.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Works well except for on-off pushbutton I just painted my new (large) garage with the Wagner Sidekick. It does save a lot of time especially on the walls. Ceilings are another matter but a small fix in the product would help ceilings go infinitely faster with less lap marks. So listen up Wagner. The on-off pushbutton to activate the pump not only works badly with intermittent failure to turn off or time delays in that, but it is badly positioned on the handle. Lets take the position first. If you are doing a ceiling you will be using a broom handle or an extension pole, but alas the button is no where near where you can reach it when the roller is on the ceiling. Sure you can lower it down into your hand and turn on the pump for 9 seconds (that is about optimum) and turn it off again and then lift the roller back to the ceiling to continue painting, but you might have taken it down and refilled it in a pan of paint. The best thing about a power roller is that if left on the wall while you roll, you can turn on the pump for as long as you want and just keep rolling. Sure you let it pump while you apply paint to maybe 4 or 5 feet of wall width and then stop it to smooth all that out, but the pump would operate for half a minute or more and apply a lot of paint. If you do only 5 feet or so at a time it stays wet long enough to smooth it all out and not leave lap marks and the wall gets done wonderfully fast and beautifully with no lap marks. Great. But not the ceiling. And I even do walls with the broom handle extension but as the roller goes up and down the wall midway down the button is accessible while the roller is still on the wall. So the first huge suggestion is take that button off the handle and put it instead on the bottom of a broom handle. Sure you would need to include that handle and it is hard to know how long of a handle we need. You could offer a sectional handle to shorten for tight spaces. The button would need to be on the bottom of the bottom section that would always be used. I think a better choice would be to let me chose whatever extension pole I want and just give me a button to attach at the bottom of the pole with a velcro strap. So this gets me to the actual function and design of your button to activate the pump. For god knows why in this era of radio frequency (RF) devices you used a air pressure switch with an air plunger button on the handle and an air tube running along the paint tube all the way back to the pump where the actual pressure switch resides. I am sorry to be blunt but this is just outright stupid design. First the air tube makes the entire hose tend to kink and be unwieldy - that is bad enough. But the switch itself too often does not actuate when you push that button, or worse there is a second or two delay that makes you think it did not work. It seems to turn on the pump immediately when pushed, every time, but when you push it again to turn it off it either does not work or has a time delay which makes you tend to push it again - and that sometimes turns it back on which is the worst possible thing because the paint keeps flowing and you get far more than you wanted and if not on a wall - as when doing the ceiling it drips all over. Gee I could live with an intermittent on, but when we need to turn it off the action needs to be immediate - no delay. I have no idea why the on is so reliable and the off not. Makes no sense to my engineering knowledge but I can testify it is real and I read many reviews complaining of this air button actuator, some saying it fails completely. So I was ready and bought a remote operated outlet with a small RF transmitter that I attached to my handle with duct tape and the RF controlled outlet as the outlet for the Sidekick pump assy. That works so much better than your air button I am simply amazed you have not made this simple change. It would likely save you money to boot. RF controlled outlets cost less than 10 bucks at most all big box hardware stores, but if you had your own made in Asia you could buy the transmitter with a velcro strap for pennies and the receiver would cost little more than your air pressure switch and would go in the unit in place of that switch. RF controls are dirt cheap and used everywhere these days. Then you could use dirt cheap standard plastic hose that would cost a lot less than your custom hose with a large paint tube joined to a small air tube. Kinks in the hose would not block the air control. Well the advantages should be obvious. I will say that the RF control I bought had a small pull out extendable antenna that I had to have pulled full out for it to function reliably, and I would bump it and nearly broke it off - I did bend it so I recommend a transmitter strong enough to not need a fragile antenna on it. But they are cheap and small. Home security systems no longer run wires - they stick a tiny RF transmitter on your window or your doors that transmit back to a home unit rooms away to tell it a window or door opened. They are small, dirt cheap, and powerful enough to need no antenna and still transmit through walls. You guys need to use the technology we have today.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to set-up and use I have 12ft Pop corn ceilings and have to use a latter. This make it easy to reach and roll them without getting up and down the latter a lot. It works well with a short extension. I did have to change rollers about every gallon of paint. The rollers would get clogged up from the pop corn and start leaking paint out the sides. It was easier to change rollers then to clean them. Clean we fast and easy.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Long time fan Well,,, I had your older version that took 4-D batteries and it finally died. It served me well since 2000 and I have probably sold more of them than most of your salesman I liked it so much. So I bought this one and there are some serious pros and cons. 120v ac, awesome. Long roller cord, awesome. Direct paint bucket feed, awesome. No speed control? Sucks, this thing puts out more paint than I could cover on a driveway. Handle extension option, half cool, would only be usable with a remote kill, this thing dumps too much paint. The only way I have found to tame this thing is a 1/2" nap roller and never use an extension... What I would like to see to make it awesome? 2' handle with switch or a switch extension. flow/volume control. everything else is awesome but it's very hard to use with it's brute force approach.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Wagner Sidekick is one awesome tool! This was a great purchase for me. Saves tons of time and super easy cleanup! Painted a three bedroom Two and a half bath townhouse today with this produced. Just want to say i love, love, love it! Super easy to use and clean after use. This roller system prevents you from dripping paint on the floor and wasted time going back and forth to refill your roller in a paint pan.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product This power roller works great. You can fly through a paint job with this unit. Painted my master bedroom and bathroom in an hour. Second coat took 15 minutes. Never dripped even once. No need for drop cloths. Clean up is automatic, just be sure to put lots of Dawn dish soap in the first bucket of warm water and do it outside. I prefer to trash the rollers instead of cleaning them. Just depends on your budget.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Started of strong and fizzled out. At first I was very impressed with this roller. I painted my ceiling in probably half the time of a regular roller. Then I cleaned it to switch colors for my wall. I meticulously cleaned it like the manual said to , and lubricated the seals. It went fine for awhile then small drips at the handle connection to the roller. then it started to stream out. took it apart clean it and same thing. replaced the o-ring and it was fine for awhile and then same thing. then it started leaking out of the roller also and ran down my wall. Luckily I am painting in a new construction area so there is no finished flooring. If my floor had carpet I would be md as it dripped every where. luckily where I got the thing takes returns up to 30 days

Rated 3 out of 5 by from This product is great but with some flaws. Lots to paint and this looked like a great time saver. It works good if you don't mind paint running down the handle and your arm. I read the reviews and saw that this could be a problem. I thought since it was an old review the problem had been taken care of. It also said that perhaps they put it together wrong is why it leaked. I put it together exactly as instructed, there was no error. It still leaked. I am very disappointed. If this problem was fixed it would be a 5 star.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What a Great Time-Saving Tool! It made a difficult job easy and fun. I bought this tool after much research to ensure I was getting a product that would do exactly what I wanted it to. My daughter just bought a condo and every room needed to be painted. I DID NOT want to use the traditional paint rollers and trays. This tool was perfect! It was easy to set up and start to paint the room. I only wish I has bought two (2) of these. I could have used one and my daughter the other one. We would have painted these rooms in half the time. Surprisingly, the clean-up afterwards was really not that bad. The reverse switch pumps unused paint back into the can. Then, you simply disassemble the roller handle to clean the few internal parts. The roller itself is simply thrown away. The tubing is cleaned easily by pumping warm, soapy water through it much like when paint was pumped through. It came out very clean each time we cleaned it. As I mentioned in the title, it made a difficult job much easier and a lot more fun to do.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I was pleasantly amazed! I must admit I was a bit sceptical about this product as I have been disappointed in the past with many painting "gimmick" products. The on sale price was right and I had a huge ceiling to paint so I decided to give it a try. I was VERY pleased with the use and results from this unit. I went online and watched all the available videos on setup, use and cleaning and this made the whole process a snap. I will admit when painting the ceiling the whole unit with the hose full of paint and the extension on was a bit heavy, but when painting on a ceiling everything gets heavy very quickly. This ease of dispensing paint made it much faster and therefore the discomfort time was greatly reduced. The cleanup designed for the machine made it amazing easy. The only flaw I found was when you needed to take a short break and lay it down it did leak quite a bit of paint. But that is overcome by simply laying it on a piece of plastic. Overall I would highly recommend this unit for anyone who must paint and wants to get it done!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I love this product and would buy it again. I bought my Sidekick from HD. I'm painting my whole house from med. khaki with Kelly Moore color matched to BM White Dove. It's a big difference in color and I knew I'd need at least two coats possibly three. I'm doing ceilings, as well. I was doing great and was completely in love until I cleaned the machine out for the third time. After I hooked it back up, the o ring leaked at the handle. Ugh. I tried recleaning that part and putting more Vaseline but that didn't work. I need to wrap a cloth around the handle to catch dripping paint and even then wipe it down every couple of minutes. Not sure if it's saving me time right now? I looked around in town and can't find replacement parts so I called Wagner and bought two kits of the rubber seals and rings for future possible failures. Problem is they may take 5-7 days to arrive and I'm painting NOW? Ugh :( Other than this, I love love this product. Wagner could easily solve this frustration by including replacement rings in the box and I would've given all 5 stars. To answer the question of can you leave paint in the system overnight...well, I am. I put the roller in a gallon zip lock bag and sealed it up really well. I'm painting out of a 5 gallon bucket and the hose is sticking in it. I have a damp rag over the hole and hose sealing up the top hole in the bucket and the Sidekick painted just fine the next day. This is how I'm choosing to do it. I figure wasting all that water every night just to get up in the morning to put the same paint right back in was not worth it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from very heavy I used this for two days and then returned because it was very heavy to use, The roller when filled with paint combined with the weight of the handle, coupled with the weight of the paint in the hose it was almost imposable to paint my 8 foot ceiling in my kitchen, also i was always stepping on the hose. It like all rollers put paint on the wall ok. and trying to use it with a pole was hard because you had to stop it and pull iy down to push the motor button which is on the handle. I used a older Wagner power roller with a container on a strap ,it broke so i thought this would be great, but was not

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I love this product. I use it to paint apartments at our complex. I love this product. I use it to paint apartments at our complex. The only down side, is that I have to return it for a new one. For some reason it will not power on. Using different outlets and even a different location. Also, I wish you could reverse the flow like the SMART ROLLER, to pull the paint through the hose for storage....

Rated 1 out of 5 by from This product needs a flow controller! I bought the Smart Sidekick yesterday (11/6/2014), I am returning it in the morning. This product seemed great, but there was absolutely now way to control the paint flow rate. The pump was either on or off. When on, it pumped so fast that paint was gushing all over my walls & floors. I was able to cover a 10 x 25 ft wall in under 1 minute. This was with paint running down the wall & dripping from the roller. Once cover I had to go back, spread the paint out evenly, and deal with the excess. On the opposite wall I tried to do in sections. turned the pump on covered an area with paint, tuned the pump off then dealt with spreading the paint over the section evenly & the excess paint (just as with wall #1 but a smaller area). Then I repeated this process in other sections of wall #2. The major problem here was the starting & stopping of the pump. This would affect the flow rate of the paint and how evenly I could distribute the product on the wall. My third wall in this room (an open loft) contained a large bay window. The paint flow rate was too great for me to use this machine. I had paint dripping down my windows. The start & stop method just simply did not work on this area either. This product has a great concept, it worked (quite well actually), the device just needed a way for the customer to control the paint flow rate. I have 15 gallons of paint (have many areas we were painting) that I will now apply the old fashion way.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best roller ever! As a customer cabinetmaker for almost 30 years I've used many, many different application products for fine finishes to house painting. This one is a winner. Draw paint directly from almost any size container, no thinning, no drips (after 20 minutes of practice), no bending, no splatter. I can't say enough about it! It's worth every penny!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cool This is awesome! You can paint large areas very quickly. I recommend watching the videos for the best experience(especially cleaning) The power cord is short. I find myself moving the machine around to locate a outlet. Beware if you would like to use an extension cord, it requires 3 prongs. You will waste some paint during the initial fill of the tubing and cleaning. Don't use this for small jobs (not worth the effort). The roller is heavy! You will notice the extra weight after a while. The cleaning instructions warn immersing the control handle in water. I like to keep my tools clean, so this is quite aggravating. It requires petroleum jelly to lubricate the o-rings. A small tube of petroleum jelly would go a long way to help insure the device is properly maintained. It may help with customer satisfaction the device works properly at all times. A small brush to clean the various grooves would also be a great gesture. If you plan to use the roller the next day, be ready for some water out of the roller and on the wall. Apparently the water didn't empty from the hose, and the roller wasn't completely dry. Made a good mess.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from You need to have this for the next paint job! Not really much into reviews, so bear with me. I had to paint my living room, which encompasses an open floor plan; so also the of foyer and hallway. They are all rather large spaces, and the thought of tackling this job was nearly as bad as hearing my wife constantly mention the project. Any-who, picked up the Wagner Smart Sidekick, as a spray-type tool would simply not work for me. Apparently, all of the stars and planets aligned with this little gem. Super easy to get started, a magical experience was had, and cleanup was quite simple. Just the time saved and lack of running around loading up a roller was well worth it. There will be no other paint project without the Sidekick. Picked it up at a local well-known home project place at a fair price. If the Sidekick ever becomes wounded or worse, it will definitely be replaced with another. Very highly recommended for anyone who needs to paint; pro or novice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A real time saver!!! SideKick will be used for every painting project I do from now on.... Great product - simple but very useful concept! A real time saver! I used the SMART SideKick Roller to paint the bedroom and bathroom at my sister's house. She did all the cutting in and taping while I used the roller. We both loved how much faster the job went b/c I did not have to keep loading the roller in the tray. One wall that was about 400 square feet took only about 10 minutes to roll. I am def going to use this for many projects in the future and will def do more in the near future b/c I can see how much faster the projects go. Setup and cleanup was super easy. Especially clean up since I was able to let it run and clean itself with soapy water while I cleaned up the rest of rooms. I would have liked to have had an extension pole with the button at the end so I could load the roller when working on high areas, but I was able to attach a standard extension and it worked just fine. If there was an improvement I would like to see it would be to have the device attach more to the paint can so that as I move around I can use the paint can handle to move the paint can while the SideKick was still attached. The clasp that holds the can in place is great but I would like to see it lock in a little more. Since I had everything on a drop cloth I was able to just pull the cloth around and not have to worry about it. Thanks Wagner! Marcus Seiler - DIY-er

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So easy, you'll want to paint everything! My brother brought his Sidekick to help me with a large painting project. I thought it would take forever and I was not looking forward to it. I couldn't have been more wrong. The set up was easy, we painted a huge wall in under 10 minutes, and the clean up was a non event. I can't wait to pick the colors for the rest of the house so I can use the Sidekick again. I highly recommend it, especially if you don't enjoy painting!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy Rolling The sidekick is easy to use and easy to set-up. I was able to paint our large family room. I liked how the unit connects to the gallon of paint and it is easy to carry around the room. It was awesome not having to fill up a paint tray and one less thing to clean. Worked great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Looks Great! I had a big paint job to do in my home. On the box of this product is enough information I need to know what paint I can use, what areas I can paint, and what I would need for my projects. I liked how it shows me what areas in the home I can paint too. It was a easy set up. The instructions are simple and easy enough to pull out and read. Really liked how you can go from a one gallon to a 5 gallon of paint can. As you are using this it gives a great thick coverage of paint on the walls. It really pumps the paint out onto the roll as you are rolling. It is clean with no mess. Has a great long cord for the roller. You can go room to room just by caring the can around. It has a great design for the can attachment that it is not big and bulky. It does not dry up quickly so you can set it down while you fix the area you are painting in case you forgot to do some thing. Great easy clean up. The best part about this roller is it gives a great coverage on the wall and it is cleaner then a roller and a tray. With a tray and roller you have drips to and from but nothing with this product. I like this roller set up and would recommend this to any one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Have a big rolling job? You just found the solution... I just finished a full basement and needed to cover some VERY long stretches of 9' walls with 2 different colors of paint #depending on the room#. The sidekick was easy to set up; and once I got the hang of turning on the pump/rolling "too much" paint onto an area/turning it off/and finally rolling through the excess to cover the adjoining areas, I was off to the races... This little baby made quick work of a massive family room, a playroom, bedroom and bathroom. Clean-up was a snap, too, and allowed me to switch heads & colors and keep rolling vs. having to wait overnight for everything to dry out, etc. Word of advice: spend the $ on extra roller covers. It's tempting to wash out the cover and wait for it to dry but I found it easier to wring all of the paint out of the cover and then toss it and start the next day fresh.

The roller cover should be removed immediately when the job is completed. This will assure you it is easiest to do. Once paint has dried, it is near impossible to remove. But here is a link to a number of great videos showing you how to do exactly that. If you have more questions call us at 1-800-328-8251.
