SMART Roller is rated 3.0 out of 5 by 74.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for Do it your self painters This is an excellent painting tool for home owners wanting to do their own painting. It is relatively easy to fill and saves time loading the roller with paint. Clean up takes longer with this tool, which is off set by the time saved painting

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to use I have a project going. I am remodeling a screen porch into a sun room. But I have had to put it on hold for a while as 2 of my wife's sisters have passed in the last 2 months. I will put pictures and review posts as I continue.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Mess free painting My first project with the Smart Roller was a ceiling in an averaged sized room. The Smart Roller is as easy to use as a classic roller. Right out of the box you simply suck the paint up into the tube with all the included parts and you're ready to start painting. The roller was smooth and continued to feed paint to the brush and I completed nearly half the ceiling before I had to refill with more paint. Refilling is also very easy to do. The Smart Roller's greatest feature is how mess free I was able to paint. I did not drop a single drop of paint onto the floor while doing the entire ceiling. I love how much paint the tube holds, however it does make the brush a little heavy which is the only drawback I had with using the Smart Roller. Clean up was also very easy as all the parts of the Smart Roller unscrew so you can wash all the excess paint out. I will be using the Smart Roller for a long time for all my painting projects. I would recommend the Smart Roller for anyone looking to paint and keeping the mess factor down to a minimum.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Results When I opened the box of the Smart Roller I was skeptical about how well it would work. I did not think that drawing paint into the tub would work very well, and that when pumping paint into the roller would leave me with paint running all over the place. However, neither of these two were a problem. The first room I painted was a small 5 foot by 10 foot mud room. I used the Smart Roller on the open wall area after edging around baseboard, door trim, and ceiling and wall corners. Paint was delivered evenly across the roller which made it easy to paint, and splatter was almost non-existent. The weight of the Smart Roller when loaded with paint was not cumbersome to use. The overall look of the finished job was as good, if not better than using a standard roller and painting tray. The Owner’s Manual is well written and easy to follow. The Tip on page 4 is an excellent suggestion. I would strongly recommend using a large tub for clean-up. In addition, for those who tend to get paint all over the place like I do, I would suggest clean-up be done outside. I am using a five gallon container of paint, and the Fill Tube is not going to reach to the bottom of the container. An additional longer Fill Tube would nice.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Light weight I hate painting this made the job go quickly, a little hard to set up the first time, but after that it was easy to complete the work, I'm almost looking forward to using it again, and as a product tester I'm also looking forward for another chanmce to test a new product

Rated 5 out of 5 by from speeds up the job I received this about two weeks ago and the timing was perfect I needed to repaint my pantry walls before I put up new shelves, The Smart roller made the job a lot faster being able to fill the handle with paint I didn't have to keep going back and put more paint on the roller, it allowed me to get so much more area covered that I was able to do the job in half the time it would have taken. clean up took a little longer than I thought it would but I'm kind of picky on how clean my tools are but still it wasn't hard to do and it really only took about 20 minutes to get everything clean. It was nice not have to clean up a roller tray or worry about spilling any paint like you can when filling the paint tray.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Really love the ratchet! As a previous owner of the Wagner Paint-N-Roll, this roller is easier to use when rolling from head level to the floor. A lot more control of the paint flow. The only downside was when you were painting above your head. With the Paint-N-Roll you could grab the plunger in your right hand and the end of the tube with the other, allowing you to reach higher. The Smart Roller overall is a time saving piece of equipment for small to medium sized projects.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from roller painting without a tray Okay, let's just say I was skeptical about the Smart Roller, I mean, come on, roller painting without a tray to clean up ? Well, count me in, the ability to roll some paint on walls, ceilings, you name it without using a tray (that can get spilled) is awesome! It DOES take some getting used to as far as gauging when your paint will run out but that's okay, this is streamlining painting for those of you who don't want to use a sprayer and it's a whole lot easier to clean up!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really cuts the time on medium to big jobs I have used several Wagner smart rollers over the years. The seals tend to dry out when left sitting for many I buy a new one for a new big job. But you can't beat it for multiple gallon applications ! Yes it's a tool that requires thoughtful setup (lubricate the O rings !) and careful cleaning, but it's well worth the time saved in my opinion.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Too hard to use This product should make painting easier ...well it didn't. I could hardly pull the plunger to load the paint. Once loaded I started painting. The entire roller set up was too heavy. I was absolutely exsusted very quickly. I also ran out of paint quickly. It took one "fill-up" to load the roller, then had to refill before starting. At clean up time there was a terrible mess and I know a lot of paint was wasted. great if you're a he-man who is detailed at cleaning. Also doesn't mind wasting.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Waste of time and money Great idea if it would have worked. When I started rolling it didn't cover completely. I pumped it more and paint dripped from both edges of the roller. Good thing it was an outside job. Going into the trash. Not worth my time to clean it and return it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quick and no mess Purchased this Smart Roller Saturday the 29th of September. I have the Wagner Power Roller but did not want to set it up just to paint a small porch and handicapped ramp. Worked like a dream! No mess no spilled paint ! Was sad? that it went so fast to paint the porch and ramps. No second coat needed and clean up was a breeze!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Fill valve leaks Unable to get the leak stopped on the fill valve. So every time I try to paint and ratchet the plunger all the paint comes out of the fill valve.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible.... Purchased 2 units after watching video. Upon use I was very disappointed. First, it states you could paint 70 sq ft per tube, both units did around 20-25 sq ft per fill up. Second, it somehow consumes way too much paint. After a couple of hours of frustration, purchased old school roller and painted happily ever after.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Roller Came off 3 times spilling paint all over The clip that holds the roller assembly on is too weak. Please review this design. While painting a ceiling the roller came off of the handle three times before I gave up and threw then thing in the trash. the plastic clip released and when the head started sliding off a stream of paint ran down on to a rug. If it wasn't for that this would have been a lovely tool, I was about 3/4 through the job and it was going very well. I do not recommend this at this time.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Help, constant flashing :o Hi, hoping someone can help, I love this thing! But, when the paint dries I keep getting ‘flashing’ like it’s going on uneven. I’m regularly pressing the trigger to let paint out as per the manual but it keeps happening. Has anyone had this or know how to stop it?

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fast painting with no mess Just finished a side-by-side comparison with a pretty good pad painter. Used the SMART roller to prime the walls in my kid’s room (bright, dark paint on parts of the walls — hard to hide), then a pretty fast pad painter for a “finish” coat. Didn’t cover, but the SMART roller finished the job not only faster, no ladder, no missed spots, no stroke marks. Great product; only issue is clean up makes it best for larger projects thus, only 4 stars. Thanks Wagner.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple Amazingly easy to use and clean up. Eliminated the need for excessive covers, because little, if any splatter.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from This product is not for a woman to use I wish I had done a product review before I bought this at ACE, but I thought hey Im a messy short painter and this could help me..sorry..but not for us little ole italian women! Couldn't get the roller arm assembly into the main tube-got to push it substantially hard down..get a guy to do. Second couldn't get the plunger out the first time, get someone w a grip to do. Third, plunger doesn't do a good job of loading I guess "good" quality paint that is thick-i.e., Kensington w maybe it works w "thin" paint... gave up,...30$ down the drain...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Wagner Smart Roller Thoughts I recently had the perfect painting project for this item...CEILINGS... I was a bit skeptical at first to use this but I am glad I did. If you have ever-painted ceilings you know the constant rolling and reaching back to the tray or bucket to refill roller. This was a huge timesaver! I only have 2 constructive comments for this product are: 1-Spatter shield for roller should be included (I was under the impression it had one included) especially for overhead work. 2-Fill tube device for paint bucket could be a little beefier. Over all I was very impressed with this unit. I had some concerns with the clean up of this but was not too big of a deal. I would definitely recommend this product for ceiling work....timesaver!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I like it! This item eliminated the need to pour the paint into the paint tray. I still had one to kind of sat it down if i needed to use a brush or other tool. I bought a thick, one coat type paint because the walls were previously hot pink and I would say it still worked well once the paint got more fluid on the roller. I would definitely recommend and my husband seemed to like it also!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from using the Wagnet smart roller I received this item about a month ago.Came down with some sickness and just now writing the review. I like the roller because I don't have to keep going back to get paint out of paint bucket, works good on flat surfaces, can put a lot of paint on wall in short period of time, time saver, would be a fifinate time saver in large areas, works well overhead if ceilings are not high, keeps you off the ladder, needs to have splatter shield included. It is a little hard to clean and it leaked a little bit.Overall I would recommend this item.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Worked well once. Second one I have had. Old one does not have squeeze handle. Second use of my new one and it will not suck up paint from paint can. Not sealing by the roller. Very disappointed. Also tried to call costumer service as I saw from a previous post responses that you were open on Saturday-called and got message you were closed!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pleasantly surprised... I received this roller just the other day, and took it out to check out the instructions and in particularly the quality and construction of the device. It is a very solidly built paint roller, and the moving parts seem to work smoothly. I have not used it for painting yet (it's February, after all), but I wanted to review the items' apparent quality. The paint seals on the plunger look very adequate, and the ratchet system works very well. I will update this review when I get the opportunity to put it to use.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Lousy Roller Makes for Large Mess I bought this roller looking forward to using it to make my life easier while I painted my large downstairs area and hallway. Of course, I'm thinking I'm going to have less dripping than a traditional roller and will gladly not have the hassle of using a paint tray, oh how I was wrong. I assembled the roller and loaded it with paint, ready to tackle the job ahead of me and was immediately hit with hassle as the handle easily unscrews while you are painting. One hassle, that so far still outweighs having to use a paint tray for me... but not by much. After loading the roller with paint 3 times it is suddenly dripping and shooting paint out of the refill port when I go to add paint to the roller, all over my carpet. Needless to say I got a small portion of what I needed to complete painted and ruined sections of my flooring from the poor design. Save yourself the hassle, throw $30 in the trash instead of purchasing this or it's going to cost you even more in the cleanup.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Big Disappointment Used this product for about 20 minutes to try to paint a ceiling. Roller came off and spilled paint all over me and the floor about 6 times. Gave up and used a conventional roller to do the job. Don't buy this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Had one for years! Wife likes to paint, I like to paint fast. This will do it for you. My roller worked great the first time , but the second time after filling the tube the paint came out the fill valve not the roller. What should I do?

Asked by: Gman40
Thank you for your question. The part in your fill valve responsible for keeping paint from leaking through, it is called a duckbill valve. If the duckbill valve were misplaced it will leak through the fill valve, the duckbill valve can also leak if a small tear develops in it. Please give our technical support a call at 1-800-328-8251 and we will be able to assist you.
