SMART Roller

$ 27.99
The Wagner SMART Roller will transform your home faster than traditional paint rollers, giving you more time to enjoy your freshly painted walls and ceilings. This paint stick roller is a paint roller that holds paint directly in the handle, eliminating the need for roller trays.

A simple squeeze of the ratchet power trigger directly feeds paint to the paint roller cover. When you need more paint, the refillable paint roller draws paint directly from the can.

The paint tube roller is perfect for medium-sized projects, and the extended handle lets you reach 8' ceilings with ease.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Well, I liked it There's a lot of complaints about this device in reviews but overall, I liked it. Assembling was fairly easy and using it to paint the wall was easy as well. Oddly i'm speckled with little dots of paint because it seemed to do that.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from ROLLER KEEPS POPPING OFF!!! I had one one of these rollers before bought both through homedepot, first one did fairly well. This one is a joke the roller has popped off 8x+ on a small closet... I tried bearly pushing on it and still pops off and also doesnt cover areas without a little pressure which renders it usless... Once it pops off a glob of paint splatters everywhere which leads to am exhausting amout of clean up time! Would return back to homedepot, but threw the recipt away because I placed my trust in Wagner and lost! Headache galore loved the first but the 2nd is a deal breaker!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good value, and it works well Here is what I like about this product. 1) It is affordable - a little more than a good brush. Even if it lasts for 5 sessions of painting, it's still worth it. 2) If something wears out or doesn't get cleaned properly, you can always get parts, and the parts are very affordable. 3) It works well. It's not perfect, but like with anything, it takes practice. Keep it up Wagner - your innovation and affordability are awesome.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy to use Easy to use. Selling house and I have high walls and ceilings. Made the job alot easier not having to climb up and down the ladder to refresh roller. Able to finish sooner then I thought. Easy to clean too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What an EXCELLENT roller. I have seen may "loadable" paint rollers in the past, but this one is great. Easy to load, minimal mess when painting, especially the ceilings. The roller lays down the paint nice and evenly. Cleanup is quick as well.....A LOT easier than dealing with the splatter all over the room from a traditional roller.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great job of painting I'm so happy with the Wagner Smart roller. It made painting a medium sized room into a simple chore. It was easier to use and even easier to clean up. The convenience of having the paint inside the roller, helped me save a lot of time. For someone with back issues, saving the step of constantly bending to pour paint was a huge plus. I would definitely recommend this!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for mess-free painting! This is a great product for easy mess- free painting. Easy to load and easy to use. Good for touch ups and for small rooms where it doesn’t make sense to use my Wagner Power roller. Made quick work of the bathroom that I was painting.

Can this be used with an oil based stain for staining a ceiling?

We have tongue and groove installed on the ceiling of a gabled roof over a deck. It is pretty high up and am looking for something to use to apply the stain from a scaffold that goes most of the way up. Would this work with oil based stain overhead, or would it drip too much.
Asked by: Sheryl
It will work great, but you should add the splatter shield, part #0514230 to protect yourself from drips. Contact us at technical support with more questions 800-328-8251.

I've been using the smart roller for years, but occasionally the roller leaks from the roller arm seal. Can't figure out why.

Even happens on new rollers. All seals clean, in good condition and lubed properly.
Asked by: Rbybee
I'm sorry to hear that you're having leakage from the roller arm seal on your Smart Roller. That seal can leak if it has shifted off of its seat, or is under- or over-lubricated. I would make sure that there isn't too much petroleum jelly on the seal which may prevent the roller cap from making complete contact with it and allowing paint to flow past.

should my roller be damp before i start painting?

It seems like it takes a lot of paint to get the roller loaded with paint, will it help if my roller is damp first?
Asked by: katie
Wetting the roller cover will not have any affect on how the paint loads into it, and if the water were to enter the roller core, it could potentially dilute the paint and cause drips and runs. If you feel like the thickness of the nap may be an issue, you may want to wrap the roller in painters tape and then pull it back off, this will fluff the nap to provide the largest gap between fibers for the material to work through.

Can a Smart Roller that will not suction up paint be fixed?

I have an older Smart Roller and it won't suction up paint any longer. Is there anything I can do to fix it?
Asked by: Anital
Not sure if the older one has the "duck bill" the rubber piece inside the disk where the fill tube goes. If that "duck bill" has a tear in it, it would fill.

How do I get the roller core out of the cover? I know this sounds so silly but I keep pulling as hard as I can but can't get the cover off the core.

Have you changed the product so that the cores are now part of the cover as one solid piece???
Asked by: katylee1066
The roller core is a separate piece from the roller nap. They are a tight fit together, and especially if the roller is slippery with paint can be difficult to pull apart. You may first try rinsing the roller nap to remove some of the slipperiness of the latex paint. However once removed from the roller arm - the roller nap should be able to be removed from the roller core by pulling it off the same end of the roller core that was attached to the roller arm. If it has dried prior to trying to remove it, it may be necessary to soak the roller core and nap together in some warm soapy water in order to help you separate them.

Can I adapt the SMART roller to use a 3" trim roller?

Does the trim roller tube and cover assembly attach to the SMART roller shaft? I want the length of the SMART roller but a smaller roller cover.
Asked by: friendOfLuigi
While a 3" SMART Edge Roller could physically be attached to the SMART Roller, the rate at which paint will flow to the 3" roller will likely be greater than such a small roller can handle and the result would be oversaturation - basically it would be difficult to apply paint cleanly and with a nice end result this way.
