WAGNER TEAMS WITH ST. PAUL TO WIPE-OUT GRAFFITI

New anti-graffiti program gives St. Paul a fighting chance against graffiti St. Paul – September 26, 2006 – Through a partnership with Wagner Spray Tech, Inc., a Plymouth-based company that specializes in innovative spray paint technology, the City of St. Paul is gaining a new weapon against graffiti: The Wipe Out Graffiti Van, a truck equipped with the latest powered paint spray technology. The specially equipped Van is part of a pilot Wipe-Out Graffiti program that aims to wipe out graffiti within 48 hours of occurrence. The Van’s new sprayers will aid in allowing the St. Paul Parks and Recreation Department to cover large "tags" in short order. In addition to donated equipment, Wagner’s financial contribution allows the Department to direct more staff to eliminate graffiti as soon as possible and offers the ability to purchase matching colors to cover graffiti so that park amenities can retain appropriate colors. “Graffiti is vandalism – and it’s costing residents and businesses. We may not be able to stop graffiti, but we can do more to control it,” says Bob Bierscheid, St. Paul Parks and Recreation director. “The Wipe-Out Graffiti program gives us new tools to do just that.” Studies have shown that removing graffiti quickly prevents future graffiti vandalism by sending a message that it will not be tolerated. Plus, removal is easier if graffiti is wiped out within 48 hours of application. The Wipe Out Graffiti Van will be operated by the St. Paul Parks and Recreation Department. It will be equipped with Wagner’s SprayTech GPX-80 airless stationary sprayer, a heavy weight, gas-operated unit for use in locations where electric plug-in access or an electric generator is not available, and the Wagner TS 9190 airless stationary sprayer, which can be used where electricity is available. In addition, Wagner’s hand-held, airless Power Painter sprayer will be available for small projects. “Wagner Spray Tech is excited to use its paint spraying technologies to address an important community need,” says Dick Swenson, chief executive officer, Wagner Spray Tech. “We have the technology and tools to combat graffiti. And now we have an opportunity for government, business and residents to band together to keep our communities beautiful. Our goal is to see the Wipe-Out Graffiti program used in cities across the country,” he said.
