1907 - 2011About Us

1907On March 10th Josef Wagner was born in Hausen near Augsburg. He studied electrical engineering at State Technical College in Constance, Germany. |
1946
Josef became self-employed in Friedrichshafen, Germany. He developed a business in trading goods, mainly woodworking machinery, electric motors and machine tools.
1947The company was entered in the Commercial Register as Wagner Vertriebsges. mbH. |
1953Josef Wagner developed "Whisker", an electric spray gun for atomizing paints and varnishes. It marked the start of the surface finish technology and of the Wagner-Group of companies which operates internationally. |
1961As an enthusiastic flyer Josef Wagner founded the Wagner Helicopter Technik company. Which develops an easy to operate helicopter for civilian purposes. Before serial production the whole project was sold to Helicopter Technik Munich. |
1970Wagner had a world leading position as a manufacturer of electrical paint spraying guns and airless high pressure paint spraying systems |
1971The USA company was established in November of 1971 by Josef Wagner and Alfons Fessler as distribution company and it was called J. Wagner Corporation. |
1972Wagner acquires Spray Tech. |
1972Because he had no children, Josef Wagner created the JOSEPH WAGNER FOUNDATIONS in Friedrichshafen and Switzerland to continue his life's work. |
1973Josef Wagner was one of the first German entrepreneurs to found a completely independent company in Japan. |
1975In the USA, the largest market for paint spraying equipment, Wagner set up its own marketing company and made its product range known through TV advertising. By 1978 a new production operation in Minneapolis, MN was created. |
1977Wagner manufactured painting systems for industry. Josef Wagner received the Federal Cross of Merit and Ribbon. Wagner purchased the land at Fernbrook Lane in Minneapolis, MN and built the current location. |
1978The company name is changed to Wagner Spray Tech Corporation in March. |
1981A new production and administration building came into being in Markdorf, Germany. Wagner employed 1200 people and supplied to over 100 countries. |
1982At the age of 75, Josef, was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit first class and nominated as Honorary Senator of University of Tubingen. |
1986Wagner bought the ESB company and became European market leader in powder coating. Josef Wagner passed the responsibility for management of the company to the company advisory board. |
1987After a full life Josef Wagner died on March 28th. |
1996The Minneapolis, MN - USA Headquarters is expanded by adding 74,000 sq. ft. |
1999By acquiring Titan Tool Inc. Wagner became the second largest supplier of paint spraying equipment for contractors in the US market. Wagner Germany now also offers end-users Solar lamps for the garden. |
2004SprayTech is awarded the vendor of the year from Sherwin Williams and PPG. |
2005A successful breakthrough in mist-free spraying. The "Nespri TEC System" is award the "Federal Prize for outstanding innovative performance for contractors" by the Germany Federal Ministry for Economics and Labor. |
2007The Wagner-Group concluded the 2006/2007 business year with the best result so far in the history of the company. |

2010Wagner launches the new Optimus Line of Power Painters |

Wagner releases the exclusive EZ Tilt Power Painter line of products. Allows the sprayer to be pointed at any direction while spraying.
