Paint Crew Plus
all that and more
I bought my crew plus 4 years ago but moved before I had a chance to use it.
This spring my aunt mentioned her house needed exterior paint. So I went by and after some taping and prep I sprayed the house. I just want to say this thing rocks. First. It started right up. Then, I was expecting a much courser spray and less finesse. Instead i got a powerful fine spray that covered the rough stucco in one coat. Of course my aunt wanted two coats. smile. Finally. I covered huge amounts of wall in minutes. On the last day I painted the entire front of the house in 32 minutes. That's moving ladders, spraying the double garage door etc.
Due to weather and holiday events I did the job over a two week period. Painting the whole house two coats using almost 10 gallons of paint.
The longest break between painting was four days. I cleaned the hopper and gun and was good to go. Another period was two days. I used plastic wrap to cover the paint in the hopper overnight. I wrapped the gun in a bag with wet cloth. I checked after a day that the gun was still blowing paint. No problem. The paint in the hopper was perfect. The plastic wrap really worked.
So. Job done.
Time for clean up. My aunt helped wash out the hopper. In the manual it warns to watch out that you don't lose a spring in the hopper filter ... well. Someone didn't know about that and the spring took a leap for freedom.
I called Wagner and Andrew in support was kind enough to locate a spring. My paint crew is ready for its next adventure.
Special thanks to the support staff at Wagner. Who thought painting an entire house working an hour here and there while on holiday could actually be fun?

Call Wagner Customer Service if you have problems!
We bought a paint crew sprayer and it worked well but then after a while it didn't work well at all. Thinking that I had cleaned it and maintained it good enough, I gave the sprayer a bad review since I thought you could not buy a new pump. Well, someone from Wagner Customer service e mailed me and suggested I try a new outlet valve. I didn't have anything to lose and the cost was low on Amazon so I got a new one and installed it in seconds. Turns out that was the problem and the sprayer works as good as new. I realize tools wear out and is to be expected but I was unhappy that a new pump could not be purchased--well, I was wrong and it didn't need a new pump (looks pretty durable with the small steel piston). I should have called Customer Service and not just get upset. I feel like it is reasonable and even a good deal to be able to get the sprayer running again for less than $20. Maybe I'll get a spare outlet valve so I will have one on hand when this one eventually wears out. (Thanks Andrew!)

2nd time I used it, it worked for about 10 minutes. I replaced the outlet valve still..no luck. I cleaned the heck out of it with mineral spirits and it has been constant problems.

Failure to pressurize gun
I have used paint crews for many years, and bought a paint crew plus (larger media bin). Out of the box it worked just fine for 5 gals of ext. latex. 2nd time out, had to replace inlet and outlet valve. Worked great for about an hour, then failed to pressurize gun again. Don't want to spend $40+ for valves each time I use it. Am very frustrated. The older paint crew (smaller version) worked for me for quite a few years.

I bought this brand new and I have only used it once. The first time we used it I would have given this 10 stars but unfortunately the second time we tried to use it, it didn't work. I took it all apart to see if it was clogged up and the inlet valve was broken. I have been looking online for a new piece and it looks like you have to buy a whole kit for another $55. It is not worth it to me. The piece I need looks like a $2 piece.

Not very impressed
PICKED UP CREW PAINTER NEW, LASTED 5 MIN. AND STOPPED PAINTING. FINALLY GOT AROUND TO FIXING IT AND NO LUCK. iT IS CLEANED, AND THERE REALLY IS NOT THAT MUCH TO DO...MOTOR RUNS, NO PRESSURE. TRIED EVERYTHING, NOW WHAT DOES WAGNER HAVE TO SAY???

Worked for about a half gallon of latex
I used it for about 1/2 hour and the outlet valve plastic plunger was all pitted. Would not hold pressure and motor runs all the time.
I like the design but wish it would last longer without replacing the valve.

Very good product, but...
The Paint Crew Plus performed very well for me. I used Sherwin Williams "Resilience" paint, which is amazing, forgiving paint. As I am anything but a professional painter, there were many "boo-boos" that I made while painting. The paint didn't run, and when it dried it looked like a professional had painted it. Of course, some of the credit goes to the equipment. The sprayer is a good value.
Once I learned to read and follow the directions for cleaning - and purchased replacement input and output valves (which I hadn't cleaned properly), I had no trouble. I'm sure all of the problems mentioned in the reviews were because the sprayer was not cleaned well. It is very time consuming to clean this sprayer properly, which would be my only complaint. When cleaned properly, the sprayer works perfectly. Clean it thoroughly immediately after using it.
